Phruler

A More Accurate Foundation

Phruler is designed to be simpler, and therefore more accurate. Here's how.

The Problem with "Point and Shoot"

Traditional AR apps guess where you're aiming. This introduces multiple points of failure, especially on non-LiDAR phones. Errors at the start or end points compound, leading to inaccurate results.

Phruler's method of physically placing the phone at the start and end points bypasses this guesswork entirely, making it fundamentally more reliable on a wider range of devices.

"Point and Shoot" Apps

This method requires the app to guess four separate coordinates. An error in any of these steps compromises the final result.

  1. Your phone's start position
  2. The measurement's start point (a guess)
  3. Your phone's end position
  4. The measurement's end point (a guess)

Phruler's Method

Phruler works like a real tape measure. It only needs two data points: where your phone started, and where it ended.

  1. Your phone's start position
  2. Your phone's end position

By cutting the variables in half, Phruler dramatically reduces the potential for error and delivers a more reliable measurement.

Tips for the Best Results

To get the highest possible accuracy with Phruler, follow these simple tips:

  • Use Good Lighting: AR works best by "seeing" the world. A well-lit room provides the best tracking.
  • Move Smoothly: Avoid quick, jerky movements. Move your hand at a steady pace.
  • Point Camera Forward (for Horizontal): When measuring horizontally, point the camera forward, not down. This gives the app the best view of the room to track its position.
  • Use Axis-Locking: For perfectly straight lines, use the Horizontal or Vertical modes to prevent drift and ensure your measurement is constrained to a single axis.
